2024 Dodge Durango

2024 Dodge Durango

A new fiesta for the 2024 Dodge Durango

The 2024 Dodge Durango, which should arrive at dealerships this fall, will be a full-size SUV.

Stellantis confirms that they aren’t abandoning the model, which received it most recent refresh in 2021. That third generation Durango was a game-changer, as it featured unibody construction (with integrated chassis and body). The Durango was also among the first unibody crossover SUVs on the market to feature three rows of seats.

However, the new-generation 2024 model marks a return to the vehicle’s roots: the Durango will once again ride on a truck platform with a separate chassis (like the Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer). As a result, the next Durango should be more massive, luxurious and proficient, becoming a premium full-size SUV.

The 2024 Dodge Durango: as powerful as ever

We can’t exclude the possibility that the 2024 Dodge Durango may be available with a hybrid (HEV), plug-in hybrid (PHEV) or all-electric (EV) powertrain. At Stellantis, the objectives are clear in this regard. However, at the outset, the Durango will be more traditional in terms of its engine. After all, the automaker wishes to position this product as a rugged SUV that offers high quality at a relatively affordable price. The goal is to compete with the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition and Toyota Sequoia.

Consequently, it’s only logical for Dodge to forego the current SRT Hellcat version equipped with a supercharged 6.2 L 710-hp V8. However, two other powertrains are still likely: a 5.7 L 392-hp HEMI V8 and a 6.4 L 471-hp HEMI V8. To ensure that the Durango is still appealing in terms of fuel economy, Stellantis has developed an inline-six turbo dubbed “HURRICANE.” More efficient than the HEMI powertrains, this 3.0 L engine may produce up to 500 horsepower. Whether it will be present under the hood of the 2024 Durango remains to be seen.

Thinking big

It’s reasonable to assume that Dodge will also revise and enhance the interior of the Durango. One thing’s certain: they wanted to make this a true utility vehicle, capable of working hard, with ample towing capacity and plenty of room for both cargo and passengers.
