The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee—part of the fifth generation of the legendary midsize SUV—heralds the beginnings of a renewal honoring the model’s thirtieth anniversary. The Grand Cherokee with two rows of seats and the Grand Cherokee L (with three rows of seats) both benefit from this progression with a few minor changes. In elongated or normal configuration, this Jeep is available in Canada in six different versions: Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve.
One of the biggest assets of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is that it’s already well positioned. Here, we have a rugged SUV that you and your family will appreciate during your day-to-day travels. It blithely succeeds in offering luxury without losing any of its rebellious all-terrain capabilities. As a result, you don’t have to sacrifice comfort (by opting for a one-dimensional 4x4) or break the bank (by opting for a luxury-brand SUV).
Built on a platform that Jeep describes as “modular,” thus enabling a variable wheelbase, the new Grand Cherokee could possibly play host to an electric drive train. In the meantime, what remains certain is that it will be available with a choice of two conventional powertrains: a 3.6 L 293 hp Pentastar V6 and a 5.7 L 357 hp HEMI V8. Joining these is a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a 2.0 L inline-four turbo engine supported by two electric motors. The combination produces a total output of 375 horsepower and 470 pound-feet of torque.
Completing the picture is an eight-speed automatic transmission and the excellent Quadra-Trac I or II 4WD system. The Jeep Selec-Terrain traction management system and Quadra-Lift air suspension, which are optional on the lower trim levels and standard equipment on the higher ones, provide for stable, efficient handling regardless of the season.
The cabin of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is roomy with exceptionally comfortable front seats. There’s also plenty of onboard equipment (according to the version selected). In particular, you’ll find a surround-view camera system, a selection of touchscreens, the latest Uconnect 5 infotainment system, a 19-speaker McIntosh sound system, safety and driver assist features, Palermo leather seats and more.
